On Saturday, March 16, 2013, First  Assembly announced that at the direction of the church board, a new scholarship be established to honor Gene and Opel Jones.  Gene served for decades as a deacon at the church, and Opel has attended the church since its beginning in 1926, brought with her mother, Beatrice Risk.  Opel’s investment in the life of the church and her example and character led the board to seek this route toward recognizing the way they have blessed our church and community through their faith and witness.

In order to explain many things about this scholarship, I have posted below the purpose and guidelines of the administration of this scholarship.  If you have more questions or wish to apply for the scholarship, you may address your questions to Tim Parsons, Administrative and Student Ministries Pastor by clicking here.

Established as a way to honor the legacy of Gene and Opel Jones, this scholarship exists to further First Assembly’s mission “to create a community where waves of people are transformed by the love of God” by investing in the lives of our youth. It is our belief that this investment will ultimately bless the church itself, both locally and globally.
