Q:  Can a person have more than one prayer language?

A:  This question is related to speaking in tongues.  I’ve written what I think is a very helpful post on the phenomenon of speaking in tongues.  You can read it by clicking here.

In terms of this question, I’d say, “Why not?”  The Holy Spirit is sovereign and can function with people in accordance with his own nature and will.  So often, because of the rules Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 14 regarding the use of tongues, we sometimes imagine the Holy Spirit is stiff and not free, but free is maybe one of the best words to use in describing the Third Person of the Trinity!  

That being said, I don’t really know what difference this would ultimately make in anyone’s life.  The very nature of praying in tongues is that you don’t know what you’re saying!  Like Paul the Apostle writes it in 1 Corinthians 4:4, For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 

Nonetheless, I think it’s better to be aware that the God who holds the stars in his hand, for whom the nations are like dust is dealing with us in ways that are sometimes both mysterious and beyond capturing with our rational minds than to think we’ve got him figured out and pinned down.
