First Assembly Community Ministries is pleased to announce Terry Gilbert as the new director of its Community Center on Lafayette’s south side.

Terry and his wife Ebony are not new to First Assembly.  Both are graduates of Purdue University and contributed significantly to the life of First Assembly in various areas of ministry.  Terry is a former church board member and youth ministry leader, and Ebony served and led in areas of worship arts, youth ministry and children ministry.

Terry currently holds the role of Associate Director of Admission at Carnegie Mellon University, where he has served since February 2015. In that role, he leads a team responsible for crafting and executing the undergraduate diversity recruitment strategy at a Top 25 highly selective institution. His work as a rising professional in support of college access has garnered recognition from both The College Board and the National Association of College Admission Counseling. Prior to his work at Carnegie Mellon, Terry served in various admission roles at Purdue University, leading both national recruitment strategy and diversity outreach.

Terry is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. He has a M.S. in Student Affairs and Higher Education from Indiana State University and a B.S. in Management from Purdue University, where he met his wife Ebony. They were married in 2007 and together have three beautiful daughters: Trinity, 9; Miriam, 6; and Naomi, 1. Outside of his professional work, he loves talking and playing sports, binging on Wikipedia articles, watching movies, and helping young people find their path, inside and outside the classroom.

Ebony has a background in counseling and recently worked at McCutcheon High School in Lafayette as a student counselor.

Terry brings energy, passion for the task and a sense of divine call to his new job.  The Gilbert family plans to arrive in town on August 19, and First Assembly will welcome them with a reception on Sunday, August 21.

The First Assembly Community Center is located behind McDonald’s at the corner of Beck Lane and Old US 231 in Lafayette.  The building and property are undergoing transformation and significant renovation as funds become available.  The director will be developing relationships with area business and agencies, as well programming that will see the property utilized to its full potential.  First Assembly has a long and deep commitment to the community and sees the Community Center as a way to open up incredible avenues of outreach.

Pastor Robby Bradford had this to say, “Our mission, as a church, is to create a community where waves of people are transformed by the love of God, and the Community Center is a key strategy in achieving that mission.  We see Terry and Ebony as the right people for this season of development in the Community Center, and we are humbled that they are making the significant changes in their lives to lead it.”
