The Eternal God

Lord, you have been our dwelling place    throughout all generations.Before the mountains were born    or you brought forth the whole world,    from everlasting to everlasting you are God. –Psalm 90:1-2

Psalm 90 often makes it into Advent readings on more than one day of the December period of waiting.

Why so much focus on this Psalm?  Because it turns our eyes from the momentary, the “relevant”, the urgent, the present–to God’s transcendent eternity.

When I lift my eyes up like that, I find something I need desperately in my soul–HOPE.

How LONG God’s people waited for Messiah to come!  While I’m waiting, God is my dwelling place.  Before the sun began to shine, before my ancestors called themselves “Bradford”–he was God.

No matter what you’re waiting on today, God is your shelter.

God cares about the mundane details of our lives, too!  The Psalm ends,
 “May the  of the Lord our God rest on us;

    establish the work of our hands for us—    yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17
