January is more than a marking of our planet’s voyage around the sun or a change of the calendar! At Lafayette First Assembly, we like to take the opportunity to invigorate our spiritual lives and ask God to bring change to our circumstances and our hearts.

So, here are some things happening at our church in the coming month that you might like to know about:

New Year’s Day–we’ll be having just one service to mark the New Year and I’ll be delivering a message that will help us look back on 2011 and ahead to 2012.  The theme of the morning is “DAY ONE”.

January 1, 8, &15–A Life Groups Fair will be taking place in the lobby to promote the upcoming Life Groups Winter Season!  Check out the dozens of fun, engaging groups that meant to make this winter of growing and connecting at our church!

January 8, 15, & 22–we’ll spend three Sunday mornings on a series of messages called “The Blessed Life”.  zdrr this blog next week for more details about it.

January 8–The quarterly “Sync” meeting for leaders will happen at 6:30PM.  This meeting is intended for sharing vision, information, and the chance to pray together for our ministries and our church.  All leaders, from Sunday school teachers to Life Group leaders to board members and staff members are encouraged to come!

January 11–On this Wednesday evening, we’ll gather our congregation in our sanctuary for an “Awakening Encounter”.  This night of worship, prayer, and the reading of scripture will help us to ready our hearts for the Awakening Fast that we’ll begin together on January 15.

January 15-February 5–We will embark on a 21-day fasting and prayer journey called “Awakening” intended for the entire congregation.  You can learn more about it at this post or by visiting The Awakening website by clicking here.  I blogged about it a couple days ago.  Read about it by clicking here.

January 15–The Alpha Course begins at 6:30PM!  I am excited to see Alpha blast off at First Assembly, as it is a great way to see people grow in their faith, ask questions, meet others and embrace the gift of the Holy Spirit.  More can be learned about this in the lobby at their sign up at the Connections Counter or by clicking here.

January 29–Generations Sunday will happen on this fifth Sunday of January, along with water baptisms in the morning services.  Whenever there is a fifth Sunday of the month, we welcome school-age children to the service and shorten our meeting times to 1 hour.  There’ll be some fun stuff between the services (10-11AM) to enjoy while connecting with the church family.
