Day 13–Broken by prayer and fasting

“My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.”  –John 10:27

Chief among the reasons to fast is hear from God more clearly.  By setting aside normal patterns and by consistently saying “No” to our appetites, we find a clearer channel to the voice of God when we fast.

Hearing God’s voice means that I must also take time to listen for him speaking.  As you continue into the third and final week of the fast, I urge you to spend time listening with greater intensity and patience.

Perhaps he speaks more clearly during a fast because we have readied our hearts through the renewed humility that accompanies fasting, allowing us to prepare to hear what he would say.

May God give you grace this day to hear the voice of the Shepherd more clearly than ever!
